Dear Sir/Madam

A need to publish a scientific journal devoted to the history of Galicia was already indicated in the spring of 2009, when the International Research Team ‘Galicia 1772-1918’ began its work in the Institute of History at the University of Rzeszów. The team gathering historians from Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine and Hungary organized six international scientific conferences in Rzeszów, Przemyśl, Poznań and Lviv. Conferences were followed by publications: ‘Galicia 1772-1918. Methodological difficulties, current state and needs of research’ by A. Kawalec, W. Wierzbieniec and L. Zaszkilniak (eds.), volume 1-3; ‘Galicia and January Uprising’ (2013) by M. Hoszowska, A. Kawalec and L. Zaszkilniak (eds.) published in Warsaw-Rzeszów; ‘Galician roads and roadless tracts: a study of infrastructure, organization and culture of travelling’ (2013) by J. Kamińska-Kwak (ed.) published in Rzeszów; ‘Everyday life, economy, culture and Polish society in 1772-1918. Dissertations about the history of Polish lands in the period of partitions’ (2015) by W. Łazuga and D. Szymczak published in Poznań; ‘Between politics, history and historical memory. Studies of Polish history in the post-partition period’ (2015) by W. Łazuga and S. Paczos (eds.) published in Poznań; ‘Woman in Galicia. Modernity and Tradition’ (2016) in book series: ‘Galicia and its heritage’ by J. Kamińska-Kwak, S. Kozak and D. Opaliński (eds.) published in Rzeszów.

Invitation to cooperation

Dear Sir/Madam,
we have just published the third tome of ‘Galicia. Studies and Materials’, which is dedicated to the Ossolineum and the people who contributed to the institution. The tome is a form of commemoration of the bicentenary of the National Ossoliński Institute, one of the leading cultural institutions in Galicia.
The work over the fourth tome is currently in progress, it will be published in 2018 and cover issues connected with everyday life in Galicia. The next tome will continue the study over philosophy in Galicia, and an additional one to the archive studies in the region, for instance: archives as institutions, archival materials, archivists, their lives and achievements, etc.
As you have seen, since the second tome of ‘Galicia. Studies and Materials’ we are trying to make them thematically specialized. The policy will be continued in forthcoming issues, however thematically diversified tomes are also planned. Subject matters of next issues will be dependent on your proposals.
We are interested in a wide filed of Galician history, including its political, social-economic, sociological and cultural aspects. We hope for cooperation with researches focusing on culture, history of law and system, history of education and educational system, press, history of historiography, history of literature, arts, architecture and music. We ask for applications, including papers presenting everyday life in Galicia, biographic texts depicting eminent Galician characters and authorized interviews with scholars dealing with the history of the province. We look forward for new historiographical trends.
In the journal we will present sources and materials about the history of Galicia, reviews and write-ups of works concerning the history of the province.
We are cordially inviting you to the cooperation.

What experience and history teach is this - that nations and governments have never learned anything from history, or acted upon any lessons they might have drawn from it.
